Magneto

A magneto is a type of electrical generator that harnesses permanent magnets to create alternating current. These devices are particularly useful for producing high-voltage pulses of electricity, which are essential for the ignition systems in some gasoline-powered internal combustion engines. You’ll often find magnetos in tools like lawnmowers and chainsaws, especially where there isn’t an electrical supply available. Interestingly, they are also widely used in aviation piston engines, even though these engines usually have access to electrical power. The reason for this preference is simple: magneto ignition systems are generally more reliable than alternatives like battery-coil systems.
