International Air Safety Summit (Iass)

The International Air Safety Summit (IASS) has been a key event in aviation safety since 1947. Each year, this summit gathers around 400 representatives from more than 50 countries. Their goal is simple: to share information and explore new ways to reduce risks in air travel. Topics discussed include safety, training, management, human factors, and practical solutions for airlines, manufacturers, and flight crews.

The summit, originally known as the International Aviation Safety Seminar, takes place every November. In 2017, IASS was hosted by Aer Lingus in Dublin from October 23 to 25. Notable presentations included discussions on ICAO’s safety agenda, global safety projects, and targeted training for managing startle effects, presented by experts like Catalin Radu and Claude Hurley.

In 2016, IASS took place in Dubai, UAE, from November 14 to 16, hosted by Emirates. Key topics covered included updates on lithium battery transport, the risks associated with small drones, and considerations for safe go-around procedures. Presenters such as Captain Scott Schwartz and Dr. Nektarious Karanikas shared valuable insights.

The 2015 summit occurred in Miami Beach, Florida, and featured discussions on managing automation in aircraft, safety risk management at the state level, and policies for safety compliance. Experts like Dr. Kathy Abbott from the USA FAA contributed to these important conversations.

Overall, the IASS serves as a vital platform for discussing aviation safety and fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders.
