SkyTeam proudly celebrates the world’s most punctual airlines of 2025, a significant milestone underscoring the alliance’s unwavering commitment to operational excellence. Based on independent data from Cirium, a global leader in aviation analytics, three SkyTeam members—Aeromexico, Saudia, and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS)—have secured the top global rankings for on-time performance (OTP).
Aeromexico Secures the Global Crown for a Second Consecutive Year
With an outstanding on-time performance rate of 90.02%, Aeromexico has not only clinched the top spot globally but also made history as one of the few carriers to win back-to-back titles since Cirium’s program inception in 2009. The Mexican national carrier completed 188,859 flights in 2025, spanning across 23 countries, while maintaining exceptional punctuality—a testament to its operational rigor, schedule integrity, and strategic adaptability.

In 2024, Aeromexico achieved an already-impressive OTP of 86.7% out of nearly 197,000 flights. The airline’s 2025 improvement reflects not only enhanced coordination but also resilience amid growing air traffic complexities. Aeromexico’s performance becomes even more commendable considering the competitive landscape and the increasing pressure on global carriers to deliver timely and consistent service.
Saudia and SAS Complete a High-Performing Trio
Saudia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s flag carrier, ranked second globally with an on-time performance of 86.53%. Operating within a region undergoing rapid airspace and infrastructure transformation, Saudia’s OTP highlights meticulous fleet management, well-executed ground operations, and continuous investment in digital modernization.
Following closely, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) secured third place globally with an OTP of 86.09%, further narrowing the performance gap in an elite field. Known for its commitment to sustainability and efficient Nordic precision, SAS consistently demonstrates operational discipline, even within the constraints of Europe’s congested airspace and dynamic weather conditions.
The narrow 3.93 percentage point difference between first and third place underscores the global uptick in punctuality standards. Airlines today operate in a high-stakes environment, where delays have wider implications on fleet utilization, passenger satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. These results illustrate a maturing industry that prioritizes data-driven performance.
Delta Air Lines Reigns in North America
Delta Air Lines, another proud SkyTeam member, was named the most punctual airline in North America for the fifth consecutive year. Despite the region facing repeated air traffic control disruptions and the repercussions of a 43-day government shutdown, Delta managed an 80.9% OTP over 1.8 million flights—a volume unmatched by other global carriers.

Although its global rank sits at tenth, Delta’s consistency year-over-year speaks volumes. In 2024, the Atlanta-based airline reached an 83.46% OTP. While there was a slight dip in 2025, its continued regional leadership reflects Delta’s strong operational forecasting, hub optimization, and staff training excellence. These efforts reinforce the airline’s reputation as an industry benchmark for reliability.
Virgin Atlantic: Most Improved Airline of 2025
This year, Cirium introduced the “Most Improved Airline” category to recognize significant year-over-year OTP gains. Virgin Atlantic, yet another SkyTeam carrier, claimed this new accolade with a staggering 9.44 percentage point improvement, rising from 74.02% in 2024 to 83.45% in 2025.
The UK-based airline has made strategic investments in technology, restructured its flight planning systems, and enhanced ground operations. Virgin Atlantic’s achievement reflects the value of continuous performance monitoring, data transparency, and the strength of leadership commitment to operational transformation.

Regional Highlights Across SkyTeam and Beyond
While SkyTeam airlines dominated the global spotlight, other regions also posted notable results:
- Iberia Express maintained its position as Europe’s most punctual airline for the third consecutive year, achieving an 88.94% OTP across 37,119 flights. This, despite weather complications and a critical power outage that affected the Iberian Peninsula.
- Philippine Airlines emerged as the punctuality leader in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time, boasting an 83.12% OTP, showcasing the airline’s recovery and modernization efforts.
- In the Middle East and Africa, FlySafair delivered an exceptional 91.06% OTP across 62,805 flights, underscoring its operational agility and lean business model.
- Meanwhile, Qatar Airways, recently crowned World’s Best Airline 2025 by Skytrax, also received Cirium’s prestigious Platinum Winner award. The Doha-based giant posted an 84.42% OTP, an improvement from 82.83% in 2024.

Latin America Shines with Airport Efficiency
Complementing Aeromexico’s airline victory, Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) in Chile was recognized as the world’s best-performing large airport, achieving an 87.04% OTP across 153,326 flights on 68 routes.
This alignment of both airline and airport excellence within Latin America reinforces the region’s emerging dominance in aviation punctuality. Santiago’s efficient turnaround operations, streamlined passenger flow systems, and investment in next-gen air traffic management technologies have set a new global standard.
A Message from Cirium Leadership
Cirium CEO Jeremy Bowen praised the dedication behind these punctuality milestones:
“Maintaining consistent on-time performance requires sophisticated network planning, operational coordination, and the ability to recover quickly when irregularities occur. These results reflect the operational discipline that defines aviation’s top performers.”
SkyTeam’s continued presence at the top of global and regional OTP rankings is a reflection of its members’ strategic collaboration, technology integration, and relentless pursuit of customer-focused excellence.
Looking Ahead: Punctuality as a Competitive Differentiator
As global passenger volumes rebound post-pandemic, punctuality has become a decisive competitive edge. SkyTeam’s top-performing members demonstrate that OTP success is rooted not in isolated efforts, but in a holistic, alliance-wide commitment to performance, safety, and passenger satisfaction.
SkyTeam remains proud of its members’ recognition and reaffirms its dedication to fostering an environment where on-time operations are not just an objective, but a culture shared across borders.
