Alaska Airlines Expands Portland Network With New Daily Routes to Wenatchee and Tampa

Alaska Airlines is strengthening its presence at Portland International Airport (PDX) with the launch of two new routes connecting Oregon travelers with destinations on both sides of the country. The airline will introduce daily service to Pangborn Memorial Airport (EAT) in Wenatchee, Washington, and a seasonal nonstop route to Tampa International Airport (TPA) in Florida, expanding travel options for business and leisure passengers.

The new routes highlight Alaska Airlines’ continued focus on Portland as a key hub within its growing network. By adding a regional connection to central Washington and restoring a direct link to Florida’s Gulf Coast, the airline is creating more convenient travel opportunities while reinforcing its position as the largest carrier operating from Portland.

Alaska Airlines Adds Daily Portland to Wenatchee Service

The first new route will connect Portland with Wenatchee, Washington, beginning October 3. Operated by Horizon Air, Alaska Airlines’ regional partner, the service will provide daily flights between PDX and EAT using an Embraer E175 regional jet.

The route is designed to improve connectivity between Oregon and central Washington, reducing the need for long ground transportation journeys. Currently, travelers between Portland and Wenatchee often face a drive of around five hours. The new nonstop flight will cut that travel time significantly, making it particularly attractive for corporate travelers, regional businesses, and residents seeking faster access between the two communities.

Flights will depart Portland in the late morning, arriving in Wenatchee around lunchtime. The return service will leave after approximately 40 minutes on the ground, bringing passengers back to Portland in the early afternoon. Flight times are expected to be about 57 minutes from Portland to Wenatchee and approximately 54 minutes on the return journey.

Wenatchee, located in Chelan County near the center of Washington state, is known for its agricultural economy, outdoor recreation, and access to destinations such as the Cascade Mountains. The new Alaska Airlines route will complement existing service from Wenatchee to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), giving passengers more flexibility when planning regional connections.

Portland Gains First Daily Nonstop Flights to Tampa

Alaska Airlines will also revive nonstop service between Portland and Tampa, with seasonal flights launching November 20. The route will operate daily through March 28, providing travelers with a convenient winter escape option from the Pacific Northwest.

The Portland-Tampa connection previously operated at a much more limited frequency, with Alaska Airlines offering only occasional weekly service. The introduction of daily flights marks the first time the two cities will have a consistent nonstop link, creating new opportunities for vacationers and business travelers.

The new service is expected to appeal strongly to travelers seeking warmer destinations during the winter months. Tampa offers beaches, outdoor attractions, professional sports, and access to Florida’s Gulf Coast, making it a popular choice for visitors from Oregon.

Tampa International Airport’s leadership welcomed the expansion, noting that Portland represents one of the largest West Coast travel markets for Tampa. The new route will strengthen connections between two regions with growing business and tourism ties.

Alaska Airlines will become one of the few carriers offering nonstop service between Tampa and the West Coast. Other airlines currently serve Tampa with selected West Coast routes, including flights to destinations such as Los Angeles and Seattle, but Alaska’s Portland service adds another important connection for travelers.

Alaska Airlines Continues Major Investment in Portland

The new routes arrive as Alaska Airlines continues investing heavily in its Portland operations. The airline recently opened a new premium lounge at Portland International Airport, marking another step in its effort to improve the passenger experience.

Opened on June 4 after more than two years of construction, the new lounge covers 14,000 square feet and features seating for approximately 200 guests. The facility includes Alaska’s Signature Loungers, private work areas, charging stations, locally inspired food and beverages, and views of Portland’s modern airport terminal.

The lounge investment reflects Alaska Airlines’ broader strategy of expanding premium amenities across its network, including improvements at major airports such as Seattle, San Diego, and Honolulu.

With more than 100 daily departures to around 60 destinations, Alaska Airlines already holds the largest market share at Portland International Airport. The addition of the Wenatchee and Tampa routes will further increase the airline’s presence, with Alaska expected to offer approximately 50% more flights from Portland this fall compared with two years earlier.

By combining network growth with airport investments, Alaska Airlines is positioning Portland as an increasingly important gateway for regional, domestic, and leisure travel. The new routes to Wenatchee and Tampa demonstrate the airline’s commitment to providing passengers with more nonstop choices while expanding access across the United States.
