Emirates Unveils Eye-Catching Airbus A380 “Grand Slam” Livery on Melbourne Debut

Emirates has once again demonstrated how aviation and global sport can merge into a single, unforgettable visual statement, unveiling a spectacular new Airbus A380 “Grand Slam” livery during its debut appearance in Melbourne. The design celebrates the airline’s rare distinction as an official partner of all four of tennis’s Grand Slam tournaments, transforming the world’s largest passenger aircraft into a flying tribute to the sport’s most prestigious stages.

This latest special livery reinforces Emirates’ long-standing strategy of aligning its brand with elite international events, while also showcasing the sheer creative scale offered by the Airbus A380’s immense fuselage. Painted onto A6-EUH, a nine-year-old A380-800, the design is already capturing attention across airports and social media feeds alike.

The unveiling comes at a particularly symbolic moment, coinciding with the opening of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the tennis calendar. Melbourne, a city deeply intertwined with global tennis culture each January, was a fitting stage for the aircraft’s first public appearance.

A Flying Tribute to All Four Grand Slam Tournaments

What makes the “Grand Slam” livery especially striking is its ability to unify four iconic tournaments into a single cohesive design without overwhelming the aircraft’s clean lines. Emirates has carefully incorporated the distinctive identity of each Grand Slam, using both colour and symbolism to ensure instant recognition.

The livery features individual Grand Slam logos, each paired with a stylised tennis ball emblem and rendered in the tournament’s signature palette. The summer blue of the Australian Open, the unmistakable red clay tones of Roland-Garros, the classic green and purple of Wimbledon, and the bold yellow of the US Open flow across the aircraft in a balanced, visually engaging composition.

Rather than isolating each tournament, the colours are blended seamlessly, reflecting the global journey of professional tennis and Emirates’ role in connecting fans, players, and destinations worldwide. The result is a design that feels both celebratory and refined, avoiding gimmickry while making a powerful statement at scale.

Melbourne Marks the First Stop of a Global Journey

Following its unveiling, A6-EUH immediately entered active service, operating flights within the Emirates A380 international network. Melbourne was selected for the aircraft’s inaugural Grand Slam-branded flight, underscoring the airline’s deep relationship with the Australian Open and the city itself.

Emirates currently serves Melbourne International Airport (MEL) with multiple daily non-stop services from Dubai International Airport (DXB), making the city one of the carrier’s most important long-haul destinations. Beyond Melbourne, the airline also connects Dubai with Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide, reinforcing its dominant presence in the Australian market.

As the aircraft continues to rotate through Emirates’ global network, passengers and aviation enthusiasts can expect to encounter the Grand Slam livery at major hubs across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. Emirates has confirmed the design will remain on the aircraft for years to come, ensuring long-term visibility for its tennis partnerships.

A Decade-Long Commitment to Elite Tennis

Emirates’ association with Grand Slam tennis is neither new nor superficial. The airline first partnered with the Australian Open in 2014, and for more than a decade its branding has been a constant presence across Melbourne Park, prominently displayed on back walls in every arena.

Support for Roland-Garros began in 2013, while partnerships with the US Open date back to 2012. More recently, Emirates expanded its tennis footprint further by becoming a sponsor of The Championships, Wimbledon, completing the rare achievement of backing all four majors simultaneously.

Beyond signage and branding, Emirates’ involvement extends into the tournament experience itself. Cabin crew regularly welcome players onto centre courts, including Melbourne’s iconic Rod Laver Arena, reinforcing the airline’s identity as part of the sport’s global ecosystem rather than a distant commercial sponsor.

The Aircraft Behind the Artwork: A6-EUH

The A380 carrying this landmark livery, A6-EUH, first entered service with Emirates in November 2016 after completing its test flights under Airbus registration F-WWAD earlier that year. With manufacturer serial number 220, the aircraft has spent nearly a decade flying some of the airline’s most demanding long-haul routes.

Configured to carry 484 passengers across four classes, the jet includes 14 First Class suites, 76 Business Class seats, 56 Premium Economy seats, and 338 Economy Class seats. Powered by four Engine Alliance GP7270 engines, the aircraft remains a cornerstone of Emirates’ flagship A380 fleet.

More Than a Livery, a Brand Statement

While the Grand Slam livery is visually arresting, it also serves as a broader statement of Emirates’ marketing philosophy. The airline supports more than 60 ATP Tour events and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, alongside high-profile partnerships in football, rugby, golf, cricket, cycling, sailing, and basketball.

In an era where airline liveries are often understated, Emirates continues to leverage the vast canvas of the Airbus A380 to tell bold brand stories at 35,000 feet. The Grand Slam A380 is not just a celebration of tennis, but a reaffirmation of Emirates’ commitment to global sport, premium travel, and unforgettable visual identity.
