United Unveils Opulent Polaris Studio and Next-Gen Cabins with Caviar Service on New 787 Dreamliners

Nearly a decade after the launch of its original Polaris product, United Airlines is redefining luxury in the skies with its next-generation Polaris cabins, headlined by the brand-new Polaris Studio. Set to debut on upcoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, this ambitious interior overhaul — dubbed the United Elevated experience — signals a bold evolution in premium air travel, offering indulgent enhancements across all cabin classes.

United’s strategic refresh aligns with a global trend of airlines doubling down on premium services, but the Elevated Dreamliner program positions the Chicago-based carrier at the pinnacle of U.S. airline luxury. With 99 premium seats spread across Polaris Studio, Polaris business class, and Premium Plus, these aircraft represent the most premium-heavy configuration in United’s history.

Introducing Polaris Studio: A Business-Class-Plus Revolution

At the heart of United’s transformation is the Polaris Studio, the airline’s first-ever business-class-plus product. These ultra-premium pods occupy two bulkhead rows at the front of the Polaris cabin in a 1-2-1 configuration, featuring eight individually designed suites tailored for privacy, elegance, and comfort.

Each Polaris Studio suite showcases a 27-inch 4K OLED touchscreen, the largest in-flight entertainment screen offered by any U.S. airline. Enhanced by Bluetooth audio, Qi wireless charging, USB-C and AC outlets, the suite seamlessly integrates tech-forward convenience with tactile luxury. The digital seat controls, quartzite dining tables, wood-grain accents, and wool-blend seat upholstery elevate the suite’s aesthetic to private jet standards.

Passengers in Polaris Studio can dine or socialize with a companion using an integrated ottoman seating space — a subtle yet powerful nod to the social elegance of a bygone era of aviation. The inclusion of sliding privacy doors further cements Polaris Studio’s role as a hybrid between business and first class.

Exclusive Service and Amenities for Polaris Studio Flyers

The luxury of Polaris Studio goes beyond the seat. Flyers will receive a bespoke amenity collection, including:

  • Hoodie-style loungewear pajamas
  • Slippers and velvet throw pillow
  • Meridian-powered noise-canceling headphones
  • Amenity kits stocked with Perricone MD’s Cold Plasma Plus+ skincare
  • United-branded playing cards — a nostalgic nod to classic airline hospitality

On the culinary front, United introduces a Studio-exclusive meal service that rivals top-tier international first-class cabins. Highlights include a signature osetra caviar amuse-bouche, Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Rosé Champagne, and a curated post-dessert snack box. Polaris Studio passengers will also gain access to Global Reception check-in areas and may receive tarmac transfers, once reserved only for Global Services members.

Polaris Business Class: Now with Doors and Dual Layouts

Immediately behind Polaris Studio are 56 redesigned Polaris business-class pods, arranged across two separate cabins. This configuration marks a significant increase from the previous 48-seat layout on existing 787-9 aircraft. The suite design includes sliding doors for the first time, granting an enhanced level of personal space.

What makes this configuration particularly innovative is its dual layout philosophy. In the forward Polaris cabin, seats are oriented away from the aisle, ideal for solo travelers seeking privacy. In the aft Polaris cabin, seats face toward the aisle, with center seats featuring a divider that can be lowered to bed height, catering to couples and families.

Each seat is now fitted with a 19-inch 4K OLED screen, part of the Panasonic Astrova entertainment system, along with Bluetooth connectivity, USB-C, universal AC outlets, and digital seat controls. United also introduces a grab-and-go snack bar between meals and refreshes its onboard dining with printed menus, updated dishware, regional rotating menus, Aperol spritz cocktails, and even bottled salad dressings — a detail that subtly enhances the dining presentation.

However, one notable omission is the removal of bassinets from the Polaris cabin, a decision that may disappoint travelers with infants.

Premium Plus: Elevating the Middle Market

Recognizing the growing demand for premium economy, United’s 35-seat Premium Plus cabin has undergone a design upgrade as well. Configured in a 2-3-2 layout across five rows, the recliners resemble domestic first-class seats but add unique international comfort touches.

Key upgrades include privacy wings with built-in reading lights, dedicated water bottle storage, and a 16-inch 4K OLED entertainment screen. While not a radical reinvention, these enhancements position Premium Plus as a strong competitor in the expanding premium economy segment.

United Economy: Comfort and Connectivity for All

Far from neglecting the economy class, United has added thoughtful touches to enhance comfort and connectivity. Each seat — whether in Economy Plus (33 seats) or standard economy (90 seats) — comes equipped with a 13-inch 4K OLED screen, Bluetooth pairing, and six power outlets per row.

The shell-style seat pan, which moves as the seat reclines, promotes a more natural and comfortable recline. United is also enhancing economy class dining with an expanded menu that now features three entree options, new desserts, and pre-meal appetizers — a notable departure from standard transpacific economy fare.

Rollout Timeline: When to Expect the Elevated Experience

United has placed an order for 140 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and the new Elevated cabin interiors will first appear on 787-9 aircraft based out of San Francisco. The inaugural route will launch in early 2026 between San Francisco and Singapore, followed by London.

The first deliveries are expected before the end of 2025, with at least 30 Dreamliners joining the fleet by 2027. While United has not confirmed retrofit plans for its existing wide-body fleet, it’s unlikely that older Boeing 767s will ever see the Elevated cabins. Retrofitting of 777s and earlier 787s remains a possibility, though no timeline has been committed.

Conclusion: A New Era of U.S. Airline Luxury Takes Off

With the Elevated 787 Dreamliner, United Airlines has introduced what is arguably the most luxurious and technologically advanced cabin product ever offered by a U.S. carrier. From the ultra-premium Polaris Studio to thoughtful upgrades across business, premium economy, and even standard economy, this rollout is a powerful statement of intent.

United is not just refreshing its seats; it is redefining the onboard experience. Whether you’re sipping Champagne in a private studio or enjoying a better meal in the back, the Elevated cabin concept ensures that every passenger benefits. In a competitive global aviation landscape, this bold investment sets a new benchmark — and raises the bar for what travelers should expect at every altitude.
