Alaska Airlines has officially launched ticket sales for its long-anticipated Seattle (SEA) to London Heathrow (LHR) route, marking a milestone as the carrier’s fifth international destination. Beginning May 21, 2026, this transatlantic route will operate daily, year-round, positioning Alaska Airlines as a serious contender in the highly competitive North Atlantic corridor.
The announcement follows Alaska’s recent acquisition of coveted Heathrow slots, secured through a strategic lease deal with American Airlines. The timing of this new service is designed with business travelers in mind, offering late-night departures and afternoon arrivals that enable travelers to maximize their days on either side of the Atlantic.
Strategic Expansion into the Transatlantic Market
Alaska’s entry into the Seattle–London route puts it up against industry giants like British Airways, Delta Air Lines, and Virgin Atlantic, all of whom already operate multiple daily flights along the same corridor. But Alaska is betting on its customer-centric schedule and partnerships through the oneworld alliance to give it an edge.
The daily outbound flight will depart Seattle at 9:40 PM, arriving in London at 3:05 PM local time the following day after a 9-hour and 25-minute journey. The return leg will depart Heathrow at 5:00 PM, landing in Seattle at 6:50 PM after a 9-hour and 50-minute westbound journey. These flight times allow travelers to spend full days in either city, maximizing productivity and convenience.
Heathrow Terminal 3: A Gateway to Europe and Beyond
Operating out of Heathrow Terminal 3, Alaska Airlines is leveraging oneworld partnerships to provide seamless connections to destinations across Europe, Asia, and Africa. With direct access to partner carriers like British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar Airways, passengers can book complex itineraries on a single ticket while enjoying reciprocal lounge access and baggage handling.

Competitive Fares and Premium Comfort
Alaska Airlines has set the starting fare for round-trip tickets at $699, aiming to attract both leisure and business travelers eager to plan their summer 2026 European getaways early. To sweeten the offering, the airline is placing a major emphasis on the in-flight experience, particularly in the premium cabins.
The new service will feature 34 fully enclosed business class suites in a 1-2-1 layout, offering lie-flat seats, aisle access, and elevated amenities such as multi-course dining, Filson blankets, and lounge access. For economy passengers, the Premium Class option includes extra legroom, ideal for long-haul comfort without the business-class price tag.
Fleet Enhancements on the Horizon
Coinciding with this new route launch, Alaska Airlines is expanding and modernizing its widebody fleet. It recently took delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner in a neutral livery, which will soon don Alaska’s striking new ‘Global’ livery in early 2026. These aircraft will play a vital role in future long-haul expansions, including the newly announced Seattle–Rome route slated for April 2026.
Slot Strategy and Seasonal Adjustments
The Heathrow slots currently secured by Alaska are leased from American Airlines for the summer season only, expiring on October 24, 2026. However, Alaska has expressed intentions to operate the route year-round, suggesting negotiations are underway to secure winter season slots or forge additional agreements.
This move underscores Alaska’s long-term commitment to expanding its international footprint, aligning with its broader vision of becoming a global network carrier while maintaining the brand’s hallmark West Coast hospitality.
A Bold Move with High Stakes
As Alaska Airlines positions itself in one of the most competitive and prestigious aviation markets in the world, the success of this route will be closely watched. With a strategic schedule, competitive pricing, strong alliance support, and a focus on quality onboard experience, Alaska is signaling its intent to play big on the global stage.
Tickets are now available through Alaska Airlines’ website and travel agencies. As summer 2026 approaches, the countdown begins for what could be the airline’s most ambitious launch yet.
