Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) refers to a range of operations involving uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) where the aircraft is not visible to the remote pilot. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) describes BVLOS as any situation where the uncrewed aircraft (UA) is outside the pilot’s direct line of sight. In Europe, the regulation 2019/947 defines BVLOS as operations that do not occur within visual line of sight (VLOS). VLOS, on the other hand, means that the remote pilot can see the unmanned aircraft without any aids. This visibility helps the pilot control the aircraft’s flight path and avoid collisions with other aircraft, people, and obstacles.
