Vhf Omnidirectional Radio Range (Vor)

VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range (VOR) is a key navigation system for aircraft, operating within the VHF band. This system broadcasts a composite radio signal that includes the station’s Morse Code identifier, and sometimes a voice identifier. The data transmitted enables the onboard equipment to determine the magnetic bearing from the VOR station to the aircraft. This direction is known as the “radial.” Additionally, pilots can combine the VOR radial with the aircraft’s magnetic heading to establish a bearing relative to the aircraft’s axis. This information is crucial for navigating toward the beacon. VOR beacons are commonly used as waypoints along traditional airway systems and play an essential role in Non-Precision Approaches.
