TAP Air Portugal Announces New Lisbon–Orlando Nonstop Service Launching October 29

TAP Air Portugal is expanding its transatlantic footprint once again, confirming the launch of a new nonstop service between Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) beginning October 29. The thrice-weekly route signals a calculated strengthening of the airline’s North American strategy, reinforcing Portugal’s role as a key European gateway while deepening links with the United States’ dynamic leisure and business markets. For Central Florida, already one of the most visited regions in the world, the addition introduces a direct bridge to Southern Europe with seamless onward connections across the continent.

The new Lisbon–Orlando service will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, utilizing a mix of the Airbus A330-200 and the more fuel-efficient Airbus A330-900neo. By deploying widebody aircraft on the route, TAP underscores its confidence in sustained demand between Portugal and Florida, a market supported by tourism, corporate travel, and a significant Portuguese diaspora presence across the southeastern United States.

The announcement was made by TAP Air Portugal Chief Executive Officer Luís Rodrigues during the Better Tourism Lisbon Travel Market (BTL), where the airline outlined its broader strategic roadmap. The Orlando addition complements existing Florida service to Miami International Airport, giving TAP dual gateways into the Sunshine State and reinforcing its competitive position within the Star Alliance network.

Strengthening TAP’s North American Strategy

The Lisbon–Orlando route is more than a point-to-point expansion; it reflects TAP’s sharpened focus on the United States as a core growth market. Leadership has made clear that the airline intends to lean into American demand rather than treat it as a peripheral segment. The U.S. market offers scale, resilience, and year-round traffic diversity—qualities that align with TAP’s long-haul ambitions.

From Lisbon, passengers will gain access to an extensive European network spanning cities such as Paris, Madrid, Rome, Zurich, and beyond, as well as connections into North and West Africa. Conversely, Orlando-originating travelers will benefit from direct access to Portugal’s capital and onward connectivity to 14 Brazilian destinations, reinforcing Lisbon’s status as a transatlantic hub linking North America, Europe, and South America.

The decision to begin with three weekly frequencies allows TAP to measure demand elasticity while preserving fleet flexibility. Executives have indicated that capacity adjustments remain possible should market performance exceed projections. Such measured deployment reflects a disciplined growth strategy rather than speculative expansion.

Detailed Flight Schedule and Passenger Experience

The new service, operating as TP267, will depart Lisbon at 12:50 p.m., arriving in Orlando at 5:40 p.m. local time after a flight of approximately nine hours and 50 minutes. The return service, TP268, will leave Orlando at 9:10 p.m., touching down in Lisbon at 10:00 a.m. the following morning following a seven-hour and 50-minute overnight crossing. The schedule is optimized to support same-day European connections in Lisbon while offering convenient late-evening departures from Florida.

Introductory return fares in TAP’s Discount Fare category, which includes hand luggage and a personal item, are available from approximately €520 ($614). The pricing positions the airline competitively within the transatlantic leisure segment while retaining appeal for value-focused business travelers.

Passengers flying on the A330-200 and A330-900neo can expect TAP’s contemporary long-haul cabin design, featuring lie-flat business class seating and modern in-flight entertainment systems. Notably, the airline will introduce a new intermediate cabin this summer across select Airbus A330 and A321LR aircraft. Rather than installing a new seat, TAP will designate the forward rows of economy class with a neighbor-free guarantee, complemented by premium check-in, priority boarding, fast-track security, enhanced meal options, and upgraded amenity kits. This hybrid offering aims to capture travelers seeking elevated comfort without committing to full business class fares.

Orlando’s Strategic Importance in TAP’s Network

Orlando represents one of the United States’ strongest inbound tourism magnets, drawing millions annually to its theme parks, convention centers, and cruise terminals. For TAP, the city combines leisure volume with business and conference traffic, generating diversified passenger flows. The presence of a large Brazilian visitor base in Orlando further enhances network synergies, as Lisbon serves as a principal European bridge to Brazil.

By complementing Miami service, TAP reduces geographic concentration risk within Florida while expanding catchment reach into Central and Northern parts of the state. The Orlando connection may also stimulate inbound Portuguese tourism to Florida, particularly among travelers seeking family-oriented holiday destinations.

Broader Long-Haul Expansion Signals Momentum

The Lisbon–Orlando launch coincides with several other long-haul developments within TAP’s expanding network. The airline is adding service to Curitiba Afonso Pena International Airport (CWB) from July 2, operating three times weekly in a triangle routing that connects Lisbon, Curitiba, and Rio de Janeiro using the Airbus A330-200. Later in October, TAP will inaugurate flights to São Luís–Marechal Cunha Machado International Airport (SLZ) with the Airbus A321LR, further consolidating its dominant Europe–Brazil footprint.

Currently serving 14 Brazilian destinations from Lisbon and additional routes from Porto, TAP remains the leading European carrier linking Europe and Brazil by number of destinations. These expansions, combined with new North American links such as Orlando and Porto–Boston, demonstrate a calibrated, data-driven approach to network growth.

Additional regional initiatives—including services such as Porto to Praia and Tel Aviv to Terceira—illustrate TAP’s willingness to balance transatlantic ambition with targeted point-to-point opportunities. The airline’s network strategy increasingly emphasizes strategic triangulation, leveraging Lisbon’s geographic position to connect multiple continents efficiently.

A Calculated Bet on Transatlantic Demand

The Lisbon–Orlando route reflects a broader recalibration of TAP Air Portugal’s global positioning. By deploying modern widebody aircraft, offering competitive pricing, and layering cabin innovations, the airline is strengthening its value proposition in an intensely competitive transatlantic arena.

If performance trends align with leadership expectations, Orlando could evolve from a three-times-weekly service into a higher-frequency operation. For now, the October 29 launch establishes a new nonstop corridor between Portugal and Central Florida—an addition that deepens economic ties, enhances tourism flows, and further cements Lisbon’s standing as one of Europe’s most strategically placed aviation hubs.
