Instrument Meteorological Conditions (Imc)

Instrument Meteorological Conditions, or IMC, refer to weather situations where visibility, distance from clouds, and ceiling fall below the minimums set for Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC). According to ICAO Annex 2, VMC guidelines are crucial for safe flying.

To break it down, when flying above 3,000 feet or 1,000 feet above the terrain—whichever is higher—the requirements are to maintain a horizontal distance of 1,500 meters from clouds and a vertical distance of 1,000 feet. Additionally, flight visibility must be at least 5 kilometers when below 10,000 feet, and 8 kilometers above that altitude.

On the other hand, when operating below 3,000 feet or 1,000 feet above the terrain, pilots must stay clear of clouds and keep the surface in sight. The minimum flight visibility in this scenario is also 5 kilometers.

Understanding these conditions is vital for pilots to ensure safe navigation and compliance with aviation regulations.
