Air India and Icelandair Strengthen Connectivity with New Codeshare Partnership

India’s and Iceland’s flag carriers, Air India and Icelandair, have signed a landmark codeshare agreement that will significantly enhance connectivity between India and Iceland. This new collaboration comes as a major boost for travelers seeking seamless travel options across India and Europe, covering over 15 routes, and opening up exciting opportunities for both business and leisure travelers.

The announcement was made on 10 June 2025, during the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, India. The strategic alliance marks a significant milestone in strengthening the travel and trade ties between the two nations, with the codeshare agreement offering a host of benefits for passengers, including enhanced flexibility, convenient connection times, and unified baggage allowances.

This agreement is poised to open new doors for travelers who wish to explore Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes while benefiting from Air India’s extensive network in India. At the same time, Icelandair passengers will now have smoother access to India’s vibrant destinations via Air India’s extensive European gateways.

Seamless Connectivity between Key Destinations

Under the newly forged partnership, Air India customers will be able to enjoy seamless connections to Reykjavik (KEF), Iceland’s capital, by accessing Icelandair’s flights from Air India’s European gateways. Air India will place its ‘AI’ designator code on Icelandair-operated flights from Reykjavik to major cities like London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, and Zurich.

For travelers heading to India, Icelandair customers will benefit from easy connections through Air India’s network. Icelandair will add its ‘FI’ code on Air India-operated flights to Delhi from Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, and between Mumbai and Frankfurt and London Heathrow.

This new partnership is set to enhance global connectivity and make international travel easier for passengers from both countries, connecting two of the most exciting regions in the world.

Comments from Airline Leaders

Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, expressed excitement about the new partnership, highlighting its potential to create a seamless bridge between India’s dynamic travel destinations and Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes. Wilson emphasized that the partnership aligns with Air India’s strategic goals of expanding its global reach, offering Icelandair’s customers a smoother path to explore India’s cultural diversity and economic hubs.

On the other hand, Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair, shared his enthusiasm, noting that the partnership would open up exciting travel opportunities for passengers from North America and Europe to India. Bogason also mentioned the airline’s ongoing commitment to expanding its network of partner airlines, ensuring that Icelandair customers will benefit from exceptional service and connectivity through its collaboration with Air India.

A Vision for the Future

The new codeshare agreement is subject to regulatory approvals but is expected to gradually become available for sale through the respective booking channels of both airlines. Once fully implemented, the partnership will revolutionize the way travelers move between Iceland, Europe, and India, creating a more connected world while fostering stronger cultural and economic ties.

As the partnership takes flight, travelers can expect enhanced travel experiences, including streamlined booking processes, improved flight options, and smoother connections. Both Air India and Icelandair aim to offer unparalleled service, making the journey between two incredibly distinct regions of the world even more accessible and comfortable for all passengers.
