The Portuguese Safety Investigation Authority, known as GPIAAF, is responsible for investigating accidents across various modes of transport. Previously, the aviation authority was called GPIAA, focusing solely on aircraft incidents. Now, GPIAAF has broadened its scope to include railway accidents as well. This change allows for a more comprehensive approach to safety investigations in Portugal. The goal of GPIAAF is to improve safety and prevent future accidents by thoroughly examining what went wrong.
