The Airlines International Representation in Europe (AIRE) was established in 1971 and is headquartered in Brussels. This association is dedicated to creating a cost-effective environment for its members. From 1971 until 2017, it was known as the International Air Carrier Association (IACA). As of 2018, AIRE includes 16 airline members and 10 associate members, which consist of aircraft manufacturers, ground equipment producers, ground handlers, and air traffic service providers.
AIRE’s primary activities focus on several key areas. In the aeropolitical realm, AIRE keeps its member airlines updated on regulatory changes related to environmental issues, consumer rights, taxation, and social policies. Current discussions cover topics such as environmental impact, passenger rights, and the infrastructure of the Single European Sky, including airport slots, handling charges, and traffic rights.
Regarding flight operations, AIRE aims to maximize airspace capacity and advocates for reorganizing route networks to enhance efficiency. Safety is another critical focus; AIRE collaborates with decision-makers to ensure safe and efficient practices related to engineering, maintenance, and flight standards. By pooling high-level technical expertise from its airline members, AIRE develops best practices to promote safety and efficiency in the industry.
