The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) has developed the Approach and Landing Accident Reduction (ALAR) toolkit. This resource aims to lower both the frequency and severity of accidents that occur during approach and landing phases of flight. It specifically addresses incidents like controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) accidents. The toolkit is the result of efforts by the FSF’s international ALAR Task Force, which published the toolkit in 1998. The insights and recommendations found within are based on an analysis of 76 approach and landing accidents that took place between 1984 and 1997. The ALAR Briefing Notes are an essential component of this toolkit, providing further guidance and information.
