The JAA Safety Strategy Initiative (JSSI) began in 1998 as a program aimed at improving safety in Europe and beyond. Its main goal was to support the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) in their mission to enhance aviation safety. However, with the transition from JAA to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the JSSI was eventually replaced. EASA then established the European Strategic Safety Initiative (ESSI) to continue this important work. ESSI officially launched on April 28, 2006, taking over responsibilities from JSSI. The final meeting of the JSSI Steering Group occurred shortly after, on June 28, 2006. This shift marked a new chapter in European aviation safety efforts.
