Smog is a combination of smoke and fog that forms in areas with heavy industrial pollution. When smoke from factories mixes with fog, it creates a harmful mixture known as smog. This phenomenon is particularly problematic in some developing countries, where it poses a serious health risk to the local population. While smog affects people on the ground, it generally does not pose significant dangers for aircraft. The layer of smog is usually no thicker than a few thousand feet. Additionally, the aircraft’s air conditioning system often filters out harmful toxins before they can enter the cabin atmosphere, minimizing in-flight concerns. However, reduced visibility can still be an issue for pilots navigating through smoggy conditions.
