United Airlines has quietly introduced My Flight Journey, a new feature inside its mobile app that gives passengers a detailed record of their personal flying history with the airline. Rather than focusing on upcoming reservations or real-time travel information, the feature looks backward, turning a customer’s previous United flights into a personalized digital logbook.
The addition is relatively small compared with major changes to an airline’s booking or loyalty systems, but it offers something that frequent travelers and aviation enthusiasts have long enjoyed through independent apps. My Flight Journey records individual flight sectors, allowing United customers to see where they have flown, how much time they have spent in the air, and how many miles they have accumulated across their travels with the carrier.
The level of detail is particularly interesting for AvGeeks. United’s feature can display the aircraft and even the livery associated with flights in a passenger’s history. That means someone who regularly tracks aircraft could potentially look back through their United trips and identify different aircraft appearances, including specially painted or otherwise distinctive liveries.
What United Airlines My Flight Journey Tracks
According to reports from InsideFlyer and One Mile At A Time, the feature provides a personalized overview of a passenger’s United flying history. Each recorded journey can include information such as the flight sector, flight time, and miles flown, giving customers a clearer picture of how extensively they have traveled on United’s network.
The feature can also reveal patterns that may not be obvious during normal travel. A passenger who repeatedly flies between the same airports, for example, can look back and see how those journeys have varied over time. Aircraft assignments can change, and a familiar route may involve several different members of United’s fleet.
That fleet information adds another layer of interest. The app can show how many aircraft models a passenger has flown, as well as identifying the aircraft type they have used most frequently. For frequent United customers, this effectively creates a small personal fleet history alongside the conventional record of destinations and flight mileage.
Why My Flight Journey Looks Familiar
The arrival of United’s feature has attracted attention because its concept and presentation bear similarities to Flighty, the popular flight-tracking application. Flighty has built a following around giving travelers a detailed record of their journeys, while also presenting travel history in a visually engaging format.
The connection is especially notable because United CEO Scott Kirby has previously spoken positively about Flighty. According to One Mile At A Time, Kirby once suggested that United should simply acquire the app, saying that the company could continue operating Flighty while bringing its talent into United.
That earlier comment gives the new feature an unusual backdrop. United has not acquired Flighty, but the appearance of a similar flight-history experience inside the airline’s own application inevitably invites comparisons between the two products.

Flighty Responds With Humor
Flighty itself responded to the similarities with a joke on X, saying that it had not been acquired by United and suggesting that the airline had instead acquired a “copy machine.” The company also pointed to similarities between its own Android interface and United’s implementation.
The resemblance is not absolute, however. One noticeable difference is that United’s history feature does not appear to emphasize delay information in the same way Flighty does. That distinction makes sense for an airline-operated product, since a customer’s accumulated record of delays is hardly the most flattering metric for a carrier to place at the center of its own app.
For United passengers, the feature is ultimately less about operational travel assistance and more about personalizing the airline relationship. It turns past flights into something customers can browse, revisit, and quantify rather than treating completed journeys as information that simply disappears from view.
Another Step In United’s App Strategy
My Flight Journey also follows other recent improvements to United’s mobile experience. The airline recently introduced additional flexibility for passengers seeking an earlier standby flight, with the app automatically monitoring availability and sending a text notification when a seat becomes available.
That feature addresses an immediate travel problem, while My Flight Journey serves a very different purpose. Together, they show how an airline app can increasingly function as both a travel management tool and a personal record of past journeys.
For frequent flyers, the appeal of My Flight Journey may ultimately be surprisingly simple. Seeing every United sector, aircraft type, mileage total, and distinctive livery in one place turns an ordinary reservation history into a record of personal aviation experiences.
