The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) was established in October 2008. This agency operates under Article 3 of the National Government Organisation Act. It is an independent body formed by merging two previous organizations: the Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission (ARAIC) and the Japan Marine Accident Inquiry Agency (JMAIA). The primary goal of the JTSB is to conduct thorough investigations into aviation, railway, and marine accidents. They approach these investigations from an impartial and neutral standpoint. This helps to identify the causes of accidents and incidents. By doing so, they aim to prevent future occurrences and reduce damage. In April 2012, the JTSB also set up a “Victims and their Families Liaison Office” to support those affected by such tragedies.
