JetBlue is preparing for one of the biggest changes in its domestic product strategy with the introduction of BlueFirst, a new first-class cabin designed to expand the airline’s premium offering across its US network. The new cabin will arrive alongside a redesigned booking experience that simplifies fare choices and creates clearer distinctions between JetBlue’s different onboard experiences.
The New York-based carrier has traditionally positioned itself between low-cost airlines and full-service competitors, offering features such as free Wi-Fi, seatback entertainment, and generous economy seating. With BlueFirst, JetBlue is moving further into the premium market by creating a dedicated domestic first-class product that competes more directly with offerings from major US airlines.
The introduction of BlueFirst will form part of a broader restructuring of JetBlue’s customer experience. The airline will organize its onboard products into four distinct experiences: Main, EvenMore, BlueFirst, and Mint. This approach is designed to make flight shopping easier by allowing customers to select the type of onboard experience first, followed by the level of flexibility and additional benefits included with their fare.
JetBlue BlueFirst First Class Cabin Brings Premium Domestic Travel Expansion
JetBlue’s new BlueFirst cabin will be installed on domestic aircraft that currently operate without Mint, the airline’s premium lie-flat product. The new first-class seats will appear on aircraft including the Airbus A220, Airbus A320, and Airbus A321, giving travelers a premium option across a wider selection of routes.
The airline plans to retrofit approximately 20 aircraft per month beginning in October, gradually expanding BlueFirst availability throughout the fleet. Unlike Mint, which focuses on long-haul routes with lie-flat seating, BlueFirst will target domestic travelers looking for a more comfortable experience on shorter flights.
The new cabin will feature premium recliner seats supplied by Collins Aerospace MiQ, offering improved comfort compared with traditional economy seating. The layout will remove middle seats from the premium cabin, creating a more spacious environment and providing passengers with a more exclusive experience.
BlueFirst will also include several upgraded services beyond the physical seat. Customers can expect enhanced dining options, priority check-in, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling. Selected travelers will also receive access to airport lounges, adding another layer of premium service to JetBlue’s domestic network.
Four JetBlue Cabin Experiences Create Simpler Booking Choices
Alongside the BlueFirst rollout, JetBlue is changing how customers select and purchase flights. The airline aims to move away from confusing fare structures by separating the onboard experience from the ticket flexibility options.
The four onboard categories will provide different levels of comfort and service. Main, which replaces the previous core economy branding, will continue to offer JetBlue’s standard experience, including free high-speed Fly-Fi internet, seatback entertainment, and complimentary snacks and drinks.
EvenMore will represent JetBlue’s enhanced economy option. Previously known for extra-legroom seating, the product will now include additional benefits such as priority security where available, dedicated overhead bin space, priority boarding, and additional onboard advantages.

At the top of the domestic lineup, BlueFirst will introduce a true first-class experience for passengers who want more space and premium services without requiring a long-haul Mint route. Meanwhile, Mint will remain JetBlue’s flagship premium product, continuing to offer lie-flat seats and elevated dining on select domestic and international flights.
The updated system is intended to help customers quickly understand what they are purchasing. JetBlue President Marty St. George explained that travelers will be able to choose their preferred onboard experience first and then select the fare flexibility that matches their needs.
JetBlue Introduces Three New Fare Options for More Flexibility
The BlueFirst launch will also coincide with the arrival of three new fare categories: Base, Standard, and Flex. These options will apply across JetBlue’s cabin experiences, including Main, EvenMore, BlueFirst, and Mint.
The Base fare will remain the lowest-priced option but will provide fewer benefits. Customers choosing Base will receive carry-on baggage inclusion but will need to pay for seat selection. Changes and cancellations will involve fees, with eligible refunds provided as travel credit rather than returning to the original payment method.
The Standard fare will provide additional convenience for travelers who want more flexibility. It includes seat selection, no change or cancellation fees, travel credit refunds, and increased TrueBlue loyalty earnings compared with Base fares.
The highest tier, Flex, will focus on travelers who prioritize maximum flexibility. It will include all Standard benefits while allowing cancellations to be refunded to the original payment method. Customers will also continue earning additional TrueBlue points.
BlueFirst Represents JetBlue’s Push Into Premium Competition
The launch of BlueFirst reflects JetBlue’s effort to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive premium airline market. US carriers have invested heavily in premium cabins as business travelers and high-value leisure passengers continue to seek better onboard experiences.
For years, JetBlue has been recognized for providing a strong economy product, particularly through features such as free Wi-Fi, entertainment systems, and customer-friendly service. However, the airline has lacked a traditional domestic first-class cabin comparable to those offered by larger competitors.

By introducing BlueFirst, JetBlue hopes to capture passengers who may previously have chosen another airline for domestic premium travel. The combination of upgraded seating, enhanced services, and clearer fare options could help the carrier appeal to customers willing to pay more for comfort and convenience.
Existing bookings will not be affected by the changes, and JetBlue Mosaic members and JetBlue cardholders will continue receiving their current benefits under existing program rules.
As aircraft begin receiving BlueFirst upgrades, travelers will gradually see the new cabin become part of JetBlue’s domestic network. The product represents a significant step in the airline’s transformation, bringing a new premium option to passengers while maintaining the features that have defined JetBlue’s brand for decades.
