United Arab Emirates Strengthens Global Standing Through Strategic Economic and Tourism Alliances with Cyprus and Greece

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is rapidly accelerating its global economic leadership by forging powerful new partnerships with Cyprus and Greece, aimed at unlocking unprecedented growth in trade, investment, and tourism. Through a series of high-level meetings, UAE officials and their Mediterranean counterparts are building strategic alliances that foster cross-border collaboration in innovation-driven sectors such as renewable energy, smart tourism, sustainable development, and advanced industries. These agreements reflect the UAE’s bold ambition to position itself as a global hub for business and tourism while offering mutual economic benefits to both Cyprus and Greece through expanded cooperation and increased visitor exchanges.

UAE Deepens Economic and Tourism Partnerships with Cyprus and Greece through High-Level Meetings

The UAE continues to expand its global economic influence, as H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of Investopia, recently held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with senior ministers from both Cyprus and Greece. These strategic discussions were aimed at strengthening economic ties, boosting investment flows, and accelerating cooperation across emerging industries, reflecting the UAE’s ambition to lead in innovation and sustainable development. The meetings took place alongside the inaugural Investopia Global – Mediterranean Edition in Cyprus, which brought together an influential mix of ministers, top government representatives, business executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers from the UAE, Cyprus, Lebanon, and several European countries. Accompanying H.E. Bin Touq were other prominent UAE dignitaries, including H.E. Mohammad Alhawi, serving as Undersecretary at the Ministry of Investment; H.E. Mohammad Saif Al Shehhi, the UAE’s Ambassador to Cyprus; and H.E. Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, who has been appointed Secretary-General Elect of UN Tourism for the 2026 to 2029 term, were also in attendance.

UAE’s Vision for Diversified Economic Growth

During the discussions, H.E. Bin Touq underscored the UAE’s firm commitment to diversifying its national economy and decreasing reliance on oil revenues. Central to these efforts is the nation’s long-term strategy, We the UAE 2031, which aims to transform the UAE into a leading global hub for business, trade, investment, and knowledge-based industries. Bin Touq highlighted the nation’s steady advancement in innovation-led industries, identifying key focus areas such as digital infrastructure, food sustainability, renewable energy, smart tourism solutions, and environmentally sustainable practices as top priorities for international cooperation.

Strengthening UAE-Cyprus Bilateral Ties

In his meeting with H.E. Georgios Papanastasiou, Cyprus’ Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, Bin Touq concentrated on further strengthening the robust economic ties already established between the UAE and Cyprus. The two ministers explored mechanisms to facilitate new business collaborations, encourage UAE companies to expand operations in Cyprus, and create mutually advantageous opportunities for Cypriot businesses to access the UAE’s dynamic marketplace. Both sides recognized the historic and mutually beneficial relations that have evolved between their nations. Bin Touq also pointed to the UAE’s strategic advantages, including its extensive network of global trade agreements, modern logistics infrastructure, and status as a central gateway for international exports and imports. These factors present valuable opportunities for Cypriot exporters seeking to broaden their global reach through the UAE’s extensive trade corridors.

Advancing Energy and Industry Cooperation

Taking the economic discussions a step further, Bin Touq engaged in talks with H.E. Dr. Konstantinos Kombos, Cyprus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs. Their meeting centered on exploring new dimensions of bilateral cooperation in critical sectors such as energy, renewable energy, advanced industry, and sustainable economic development. Both ministers highlighted the potential for joint projects that would integrate environmental stewardship with economic growth, while also promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices in support of long-term shared prosperity.

Tourism as a Catalyst for Growth

Tourism cooperation featured prominently in the bilateral discussions, particularly during Bin Touq’s meeting with H.E. Kostas Koumis, Cyprus’ Minister of Tourism. Here, Bin Touq presented the UAE’s ambitious Tourism Strategy 2031, which is designed to elevate the nation’s status as a global leader in tourism and hospitality over the next decade. The plan targets significant growth in visitor arrivals, infrastructure development, and tourism-related investments, while positioning the UAE at the forefront of tourism innovation. Both parties discussed potential joint tourism programs aimed at promoting sustainable, green, and experience-based tourism offerings that could benefit both countries and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region. By developing innovative initiatives, the UAE and Cyprus seek to drive new levels of tourism exchange, attract international travelers, and boost bilateral visitor flows.

Building a Strong UAE-Greece Tourism Alliance

In a separate meeting with H.E. Olga Kefalogianni, Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Bin Touq examined various opportunities to strengthen tourism collaboration between the UAE and Greece. The ministers focused on advancing smart tourism infrastructure, promoting environmentally responsible tourism models, and launching collaborative programs to increase visitor exchanges. Bin Touq emphasized the growing importance of UAE-Greek tourism relations, noting that the partnership represents a significant milestone in the broader economic alliance between the two nations. This positive trend is evident in the rising number of Greek tourists choosing to visit the UAE. In 2024, the UAE welcomed 20,452 visitors from Greece — a sharp twenty-five percent rise from the 16,366 arrivals recorded in 2023. This surge has been supported by robust air connectivity, with thirty-three weekly flights linking the two countries through their respective national carriers.

The United Arab Emirates is forging powerful new economic and tourism alliances with Cyprus and Greece, advancing its global leadership by driving trade, investment, and sustainable growth through high-level strategic cooperation.

Driving Forward with Regional Economic Integration

The recent high-level engagements demonstrate the UAE’s proactive approach to forging deeper ties with key Mediterranean partners. By prioritizing innovation, sustainable development, and strategic investment partnerships, the UAE continues to strengthen its global economic presence while fostering shared prosperity with nations like Cyprus and Greece.
