Vietnam's Travel Sector Soars as Traravico Achieves Over VNĐ2.7 Trillion in Revenue for 2025, Igniting Growth

The Vietnam travel sector is witnessing a remarkable transformation as Vietnam Railway Transport JSC (Traravico) has reported an impressive revenue exceeding VNĐ2.7 trillion (approximately US$103 million) for the first half of 2025. This significant achievement reflects Traravico’s reliability as a well-integrated operations platform and the innovative strides it has made in both passenger and freight operations. The company’s strategic expansion of offerings, including cultural tourism trains and extensive charter services, has been pivotal in meeting the increasing demand as travel continues to rebound in the post-pandemic era.

In the first half of 2025, Traravico, which emerged from the merger of the Hà Nội and Sài Gòn railway transport companies, demonstrated its robust financial health, achieving average daily revenue close to VNĐ15 billion. This performance underscores Traravico’s successful integration of operations, allowing it to harness synergies and streamline services across its network. The company’s impressive financial results during this period signify not only its operational effectiveness but also its adaptability in navigating the complexities of the recovering travel landscape.

Financial Performance and Profit Growth

In its Q2 financial report, Traravico unveiled a net revenue of VNĐ1.43 trillion, showcasing strong earnings growth driven by strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery. The gross profit reported stood at VNĐ166.4 billion, highlighting the profitability of its operations. After accounting for various expenses, the after-tax profit for Q2 reached VNĐ65 billion, contributing to a cumulative after-tax profit of VNĐ94.7 billion for the first half of the year—a commendable 7% year-on-year increase.

This upward trend in profitability can largely be attributed to Traravico’s commitment to diversifying its services. The promotion of branded tourism trains and the expansion of charter services have attracted a growing number of domestic and international travelers. Notable routes such as the Hoa Phượng Đỏ train, connecting Hà Nội and Hải Phòng, alongside the Central Heritage Connection route linking Huế and Đà Nẵng, have proven to be highly popular, capturing the interest of tourists eager to explore Vietnam’s rich culture and landscapes.

Strategic Expansion Plans and Revenue Goals

Looking ahead, Traravico has set ambitious targets for the second half of 2025, aiming to generate VNĐ2.23 trillion in transport revenue—an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. This goal is part of a broader strategy to achieve a full-year revenue target of VNĐ4.73 trillion, which includes VNĐ816.2 billion from freight services and VNĐ1.4 trillion from passenger trains. Such targets reflect the company’s confidence in its strategic direction, as it seeks to meet the growing demands of both passenger and freight services across Vietnam.

The development of new services is essential for Traravico to meet these revenue goals. By continuing to enhance its offerings, the company aims to solidify its leadership position within the country’s railway industry.

Innovative Offerings to Attract Passengers

Beyond financial metrics, Traravico is dedicated to improving the overall travel experience for passengers. In August, the company plans to launch a new cultural train on the Hà Nội–Bắc Ninh route, designed to celebrate Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage. This train will feature traditional folk music, crafts, and local cuisine, merging tourism with cultural promotion to create an immersive experience for travelers.

On the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day on September 2, Traravico is set to operate special trains catering to government officials and military personnel, ensuring efficient and comfortable transportation during this significant time.

Fleet Modernization and Expansion Plans

As part of its long-term growth strategy, Traravico is committed to modernizing its fleet to accommodate the increasing demand for both passenger and freight services. Plans are underway to refurbish 160 carriages on the Hà Nội–Sài Gòn route, ensuring that trains are equipped with the latest amenities for maximum comfort. This refurbishment not only enhances passenger experience but also extends the life of the existing fleet, reducing maintenance costs while addressing the rising demand for services.

On the freight side, Traravico intends to invest in the construction of 50 new container wagons to boost freight capacity, aligning with the growing need for effective transportation solutions across the nation. This expansion aims to facilitate the increasing volume of goods being transported throughout Vietnam, thereby contributing to the overall growth of the domestic economy.

Sustainability and Future Prospects

Beyond its impressive financial growth, Traravico is increasingly focusing on sustainability within its operations. The company is exploring ways to adopt eco-friendly practices, including greener technologies and optimizing energy consumption. With the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions, Traravico aims to align its business practices with global standards to ensure environmentally responsible service delivery.

As Vietnam’s economy is poised for growth in the coming years, the demand for reliable and efficient transportation services is expected to rise correspondingly. Traravico stands ready to capitalize on these emerging opportunities, bolstered by its innovative approach, modernized fleet, and strategic initiatives. The company’s positive financial outcomes in the first half of 2025 serve as a testament to its promising trajectory. With plans for further expansion, fleet upgrades, and new service introductions, Traravico is well-positioned for even greater success in the latter half of the year and beyond.

Vietnam’s Tourism Industry Thrives

Traravico’s outstanding performance, surpassing VNĐ2.7 trillion in revenue in the first quarter of 2025, highlights the potential of innovative products and development strategies in revitalizing the country’s tourism and transport sectors. This remarkable achievement underlines the company’s ongoing commitment to robust growth and its dynamic response to the ever-evolving requirements of the railway industry.

Through service expansion, promotion of branded tourism trains, and fleet renewal, Traravico has laid a solid foundation for sustained growth in the second half of the year. With aggressive financial targets and a steadfast dedication to enhancing passenger and freight services, Traravico is set to play a pivotal role in the evolution of Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure.
