According to aviation analysts, the proportion of international passengers flying with Indian carriers currently stands at 21%. Premium cabins, especially on long-haul routes, are highly profitable for airlines, as they account for a significant portion of the airline’s revenue. In fact, Air India made nearly 50% of its revenue from international routes in the fiscal year 2024, amounting to around $16 billion from a total revenue of $34 billion. As a result, the airline’s premium push is not only a strategic move to improve its passenger experience but also a way to maximize its profitability.
