Air Canada Unveils Gold-Themed A330 Livery Honouring Olympians Ahead of the 2026 Winter Games

Air Canada has revealed a bold new tribute to the nation’s top winter athletes, unveiling a special Airbus A330-300 livery that celebrates Team Canada ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Italy. The aircraft, registered C-GEGC, now carries a sweeping gold-and-red design intended to honour the strength, commitment, and medal ambitions of the athletes who will represent the country on the world stage.

The carrier, headquartered in Montréal, serves as the official airline of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams, and is preparing to transport nearly 800 athletes and delegates to and from Italy for the upcoming Games. This livery rollout marks the beginning of an expansive national campaign aimed at elevating Canada’s presence at Milan–Cortina 2026.

Air Canada’s refreshed A330 livery instantly stands out with its radiant gold tail — a striking deviation from the airline’s signature red maple leaf. The gold treatment reflects the nation’s competitive spirit and symbolizes the podium finishes Canada hopes to secure next year. Stretching across the fuselage, large full-body portraits of eight Team Air Canada Athlete Ambassadors add emotional depth and visual power. Four French-speaking athletes and four English-speaking athletes were chosen, with each side of the aircraft featuring slogans in one of Canada’s two official languages: “Fly the flag” and “Haut le drapeau.”

The unveiling came with a message from Andy Shibata, Air Canada’s Vice President of Brand, who emphasized the meaning behind the design, asserting that it represents the resilience and determination of the athletes preparing for the Games. The livery offers both a patriotic symbol and a visual rallying point for teams and supporters heading into the 2026 competition season.

First Flight: A Symbolic Journey to Milan

Tracking data indicates that C-GEGC underwent repainting in Toronto between November 23 and 27, before completing a ferry flight to Montréal. Its first commercial journey wearing the Winter Games livery departed for Milan Malpensa (MXP) — the host city of the 2026 Olympics — creating a fitting narrative arc that ties the aircraft’s debut directly to the global event it was designed to honour.

Air Canada’s Olympic partnership extends far beyond a single aircraft. Through its employee-driven “Going for Gold” program, staff members across the airline are actively participating in initiatives to ensure athletes receive a smooth, supportive travel experience. This includes enhanced in-flight comfort kits, curated memorabilia packages, and personalized travel support. Every athlete will also receive complimentary Aeroplan 35K status along with 10,000 Aeroplan points, strengthening their connection to the national carrier.

Inside the Aircraft: A Proven Long-Haul Performer

C-GEGC carries a storied operational history. Delivered new to Singapore Airlines in 2009, the A330 spent over eight years flying across Asia and beyond before joining TAP Air Portugal in 2017 and ultimately transferring to Air Canada in 2019. Its unique pedigree makes it one of the few aircraft to have served three Star Alliance carriers across three continents.

Today, the aircraft operates in a three-class configuration suited for long-haul missions. Air Canada’s layout features 32 lie-flat business class seats, 24 premium economy recliners, and 241 economy seats, enabling it to carry large delegations efficiently while maintaining premium cabin comfort for high-performance athletes preparing for competition.

A National Statement in the Sky

Air Canada’s Olympic-themed A330 represents more than branding: it is a highly visible emblem of national identity, athletic excellence, and unified support for the country’s top competitors. As the countdown to Milan–Cortina 2026 continues, the aircraft will serve as a flying ambassador, connecting global audiences to the passion and pride of Canadian sport.

The livery will appear on long-haul routes throughout the year, ensuring strong visibility during one of the most significant cultural and athletic milestones on the global calendar.
