Onderzoeksraad Voor Veiligheid (Netherlands)

The Dutch Safety Board, known as Onderzoeksraad Voor Veiligheid, is an independent organization established by Dutch law. Its primary role is to investigate incidents across various sectors, including aviation, construction, health, and transportation. By examining these events, the Board aims to uncover the causes or probable causes of accidents. This investigation process is crucial for preventing similar occurrences in the future. If the findings are significant, the Board also issues recommendations to improve safety.

The organization is led by a Board that includes five permanent members and is supported by ten committees. For specific cases, special Supervisory Committees are formed to ensure thorough investigations. The Board’s office comprises researchers, safety specialists, and administrative staff, all working together to fulfill its mission. Importantly, the Dutch Safety Board is the legal successor to the former Transport Safety Board, continuing its commitment to enhancing safety across the nation.
