Wizz Air Expands Its Romanian Network: Eight New Routes from Suceava to Major European Cities

Wizz Air, a leading low-cost airline in Europe, is making significant strides in enhancing travel options for Romanian passengers with the reopening of its operational base at Suceava “Ștefan cel Mare” International Airport. This strategic move will not only provide greater connectivity but also stimulate economic growth and tourism in the region. Starting in December 2025, Wizz Air will launch eight new routes from Suceava to key destinations including Bologna, Milan Bergamo, Venice, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Birmingham, Larnaca, Brussels Charleroi, and Vienna. With the addition of these routes, Wizz Air continues to solidify its commitment to affordable travel across Europe.

The expansion will see the allocation of two Airbus A321neo aircraft to the Suceava base, renowned for their fuel efficiency and eco-friendly features. This modern fleet will provide passengers with a safe and comfortable travel experience while keeping fares low, with ticket prices starting as low as 79 RON on select routes. Such affordability is expected to encourage more travelers, both local and international, to explore the vibrant cultures and attractions of the new destinations.

In detail, the newly launched routes include:

  • Suceava – Bologna: Operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, starting December 16, 2025.
  • Suceava – Milan Bergamo: Flights available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from December 15, 2025.
  • Suceava – Venice: Scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays beginning December 16, 2025.
  • Suceava – Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden: Running on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from December 15, 2025.
  • Suceava – Birmingham: Also operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from December 15, 2025.
  • Suceava – Larnaca: Service on Thursdays and Sundays starting December 18, 2025.
  • Suceava – Brussels Charleroi: Available on Tuesdays and Saturdays from December 16, 2025.
  • Suceava – Vienna: The existing route will increase in frequency to operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from October 26, 2025.

In addition to these new routes, Wizz Air is also ramping up its service to Dortmund, with flights scheduled four times per week from January 5, 2026. This enhancement not only adds variety to the travel options available to passengers but also highlights Wizz Air’s dedication to expanding its network in Romania, where it has been operational since 2006.

The significance of this reopening extends beyond mere travel convenience; it is a vital component of regional development efforts. According to Gheorghe Șoldan, President of the Suceava County Council, the reestablishment of Wizz Air’s base signals a commitment to modernizing the airport and improving connectivity for the region. He remarked, “The presence of Wizz Air in Suceava is a testament to our ongoing efforts to modernize the airport and improve connectivity for our region. We are confident that these new routes will lead to increased tourism, economic growth, and enhanced links with the Romanian diaspora.”

Similarly, Ioan Măriuța, General Manager of Suceava International Airport, emphasized the importance of Wizz Air’s return, noting that over 3 million passengers have utilized the airport since the airline commenced operations there in 2016. Măriuța stated, “The reopening of this base significantly expands our connectivity and supports local business opportunities.”

Wizz Air’s impact on Romania has been profound, with the airline currently operating 192 routes from 13 airports across the country. In the upcoming winter season of 2025, the airline will connect Romanian passengers to 70 destinations in 24 countries. The establishment of eight operational bases in Romania, including Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iași, Sibiu, Suceava, and Timișoara, underscores Wizz Air’s commitment to offering comprehensive travel options that cater to the diverse needs of its customers.

Mauro Peneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, expressed enthusiasm about the reopening of the Suceava base, stating, “We are proud to announce the reopening of our Suceava base and the launch of these eight new routes, providing greater travel options for our passengers. This expansion aligns with our long-term strategy to offer affordable, ultra-low-cost fares to a broader range of destinations.”

Looking ahead, Wizz Air is poised for even further expansion, with over 300 new aircraft on order. This positions the airline to enhance its network of services across Europe and beyond, ensuring that travelers have access to affordable, convenient, and reliable travel options. As Suceava strives to become a premier airport in Romania, Wizz Air’s expanded presence is anticipated to play a crucial role in achieving the region’s development goals.

In conclusion, the reopening of Wizz Air’s Suceava base and the introduction of these eight new routes mark a significant milestone for both the airline and the region. With an unwavering commitment to providing low-cost travel and enhancing connectivity, Wizz Air is not only facilitating easier travel for passengers but also contributing to the economic growth and modernization of Suceava and its surrounding areas. The future looks bright for both Wizz Air and the Romanian travel market as they embark on this exciting new chapter together.
