Aircraft Positioning And Information System (Apis)

The Aircraft Positioning and Information System (APIS) is a helpful parking guidance tool created by FMT Aircraft Gate Support Systems in Sweden. This system uses lasers to figure out where the aircraft is in relation to the centerline of the parking stand. It also measures how far the aircraft needs to go to reach the best stopping point. Pilots can see the necessary direction and amount of turn needed to get back on track through a guidance board. This board is located on the centerline, just behind the stop point. Additionally, it shows the distance left to travel in both digital and analog formats. The APIS++ version comes with several useful features: it conducts a functional check during activation and monitors itself while in use. It also displays the type of aircraft to help pilots ensure the system is set up correctly. Other features include centerline and stop guidance, as well as an indication for when the stop point has been overshot.
