Frontier Airlines is accelerating its loyalty strategy, giving frequent flyers a shorter route to its highest elite tier while promising stronger earning rates and more valuable benefits across the program. The airline has immediately reduced the Elite Diamond qualification threshold from 100,000 to 75,000 Elite Status Points, cutting the requirement by 25%.
The change is part of a broader Frontier Miles overhaul that also introduces higher mileage and Elite Status Point earning rates for eligible tickets purchased from September 1, 2026. The revised program comes as Frontier continues moving beyond its traditional ultra-low-cost carrier model, with investments in first class seating, Starlink connectivity and a more comprehensive loyalty proposition.
For frequent Frontier travelers, the Diamond reduction is arguably the most significant immediate change. Members who previously needed 100,000 Elite Status Points to reach the airline’s highest published tier will now need just 75,000 points. Frontier has confirmed that the 2026 qualification requirements for Elite Silver, Gold and Platinum will remain unchanged for the 2027 elite year, making the Diamond adjustment particularly important for travelers targeting top-tier status.
Frontier Miles Lowers Elite Diamond Requirement to 75,000 Points
The new 75,000-point Elite Diamond threshold substantially changes the mathematics of earning Frontier’s highest status level. A traveler who previously faced a six-figure qualification target now has a requirement that is one-quarter lower, potentially bringing Diamond within reach for customers who fly Frontier regularly but do not maintain extremely high annual spending.
The timing is also notable because Frontier is changing its earning structure for tickets purchased beginning September 1, 2026. Economy, premium and business bundles will generate Elite Status Points and miles according to the member’s status and whether the traveler holds the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard. Standard members can earn between six and 16 times their eligible spending, while qualifying cardmembers can earn between 12 and 22 times.
At the top of the revised structure, Elite Diamond members can earn at a 22x rate, with select cardmembers potentially receiving additional rewards on eligible Frontier purchases. That means the lower qualification threshold is being paired with a fundamentally stronger earning opportunity, rather than introduced as an isolated status adjustment.
James Fenner, Frontier’s Vice President of Revenue and Loyalty, described the changes as a combination of new earning opportunities, enhanced elite benefits and a faster route to Diamond. The strategy reflects an effort to make Frontier Miles more compelling not only for occasional travelers, but also for customers who can concentrate a meaningful share of their flying and eligible spending with the airline.
Frontier Elite Silver, Gold and Platinum Benefits Expand
The program’s improvements do not stop with Elite Diamond. Frontier is also preparing a series of enhanced benefits for all elite tiers in 2027, giving members incentives to pursue status even if Diamond remains outside their normal travel patterns.
Elite Silver begins at 15,000 Elite Status Points. Its 2027 benefits will include complimentary preferred-seat upgrades, along with opportunities to move into UpFront Plus or first class four hours before departure when purchasing an eligible economy or premium bundle. That represents a significant shift for an airline whose traditional value proposition has emphasized low base fares rather than extensive complimentary premium benefits.
Elite Gold requires 25,000 points and expands the upgrade window to eight hours before departure. Members will also receive a carry-on bag and Group 1 boarding, making the tier considerably more useful for travelers who value convenience as much as fare savings.
Elite Platinum remains at 50,000 Elite Status Points, but its benefits become substantially richer. Starting January 1, 2027, Platinum members will have an 18-hour window for UpFront Plus or first class upgrades when eligible bundles are purchased. The tier will also provide seating upgrades for everyone on a booking when an economy bundle is purchased, waive the pet-in-cabin fee, provide a checked bag weighing up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms) for each traveler, and include two companion travel certificates.
Elite Diamond Becomes Frontier’s Most Powerful Loyalty Tier
At 75,000 points, Elite Diamond is now easier to attain while also offering the most extensive package of benefits under the 2027 program. Diamond members will become eligible for complimentary UpFront Plus or first class upgrades 24 hours before departure when purchasing an economy or premium bundle, subject to availability.
The tier will also include two checked bags of up to 50 pounds per person, unlimited companion travel, and preboarding. These benefits significantly change the practical value of Frontier’s top status, particularly for travelers who routinely fly with companions or need additional baggage.
The combination matters because elite status is increasingly being judged by what it saves travelers from paying for separately. A lower qualification threshold means more frequent customers can reach Diamond, while complimentary seating upgrades, baggage allowances and companion benefits can make the status materially valuable once earned.
Frontier Miles Adds Milestone Rewards for 2027
Frontier is also introducing Milestone Rewards for the 2027 program year. Elite members at each tier will be able to select additional perks and rewards beyond their standard status benefits. Frontier has not yet revealed the complete menu of milestone choices, leaving some details of the new system still to come.
Nevertheless, the addition signals a broader change in how Frontier approaches loyalty. Instead of treating elite status as a simple collection of fixed benefits, the airline appears to be moving toward a program where customers can receive additional rewards as their engagement increases.
That strategy could become particularly important as Frontier adds features traditionally associated with larger network airlines.
