The Aviation Safety Monitoring System (ASMS) was established in 1991 to offer vital safety information to the New Zealand aviation community. Its primary role is to analyze data from accidents and incidents, helping to enhance safety standards. Additionally, ASMS tracks corrective actions for any non-compliance found during proactive surveillance.
The ASMS functions as a relational database that connects details about aviation document holders with safety failures, such as occurrences and non-compliances. It also monitors the progress of corrective actions taken. This system is seamlessly integrated with the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) management information system, providing users with tools to create and manage databases, customize occurrence reports, and track safety investigations.
Risk management is simplified through severity and likelihood codes, which help assess potential issues. The automated Occurrence Report forms make data entry easier and maintain an audit trail of any changes made. Furthermore, investigation reports can include multimedia elements, such as photographs, enriching the documentation process.
