Qatar Airways is reshaping its long-haul network with a major adjustment to its only New Zealand service. Starting December 9, the Doha to Auckland route will take a new path through Melbourne Airport, replacing the current Doha-Auckland operation via Adelaide. The revised service will connect Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Qatar with Auckland Airport (AKL) through Melbourne (MEL), creating a new international link between Melbourne and Auckland. Although the journey remains one of the world’s longest commercial flights, the new routing allows Qatar Airways to better utilize its Australian network while maintaining connectivity between the Gulf region and New Zealand.
The airline will operate the route with a Boeing 777-300ER, featuring a 354-seat configuration without a first-class cabin. Passengers will have access to Qatar Airways’ renowned Qsuite Business Class, along with Starlink Wi-Fi connectivity across the aircraft. The same aircraft configuration is already used on other Qatar Airways services connecting Doha and Melbourne.

The outbound flight, QR904, will depart Doha at 1:50 AM and arrive in Melbourne at 10:20 PM local time. After a short connection period, the aircraft will continue to Auckland, departing Melbourne at 1:20 AM and arriving in New Zealand at 6:50 AM.
The return service, QR905, will leave Auckland at 1:15 PM, arriving in Melbourne at 3:10 PM. It will then depart Melbourne at 5:10 PM and arrive back in Doha at 11:25 PM the following day.
