The Global Aviation Safety Road Map (GASR) was created in 2006 by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in collaboration with various industry leaders. This group included organizations like the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Airbus, Boeing, and others. GASR serves as a key implementation program for ICAO’s Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP). Its main goal is to provide a structured framework for all stakeholders involved in aviation safety. This includes governments, regulators, airlines, airports, and safety organizations. By using this roadmap, these entities can better coordinate their safety policies and initiatives worldwide.
One of the significant benefits of the Safety Roadmap is that it helps track progress toward safety standards. It also ensures that resources are used effectively, avoiding unnecessary duplication of efforts across the globe. Notably, the European Strategic Safety Initiative was part of this roadmap until it ended in 2016. This initiative helped align safety efforts within Europe and with the rest of the world, focusing on global cooperation. Both the Roadmap and the Initiative share a similar timeframe of ten to fifteen years, making them compatible in their objectives.
