Licensed Aircraft Engineer (Lae)

A Licensed Aircraft Engineer (LAE) is a trained professional who holds a license from a National Aviation Authority (NAA). This license allows them to certify the work done on aircraft. It’s important to note that this certifying status can be limited to specific types of tasks. Typically, the mechanical work related to engines and airframes is treated differently from electrical systems, avionics, or autopilot systems, both in terms of training and approvals.

Moreover, the approval scope might be further narrowed by aircraft type. In some cases, restricted approvals can be granted. These allow LAEs to exercise limited certifying powers in areas outside their main training and expertise.

This role is often referred to as mechanic or Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT). The work they do is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of aircraft operations.
