Riyadh Air is expanding its European network with a new service between Riyadh and Milan, giving Saudi Arabia’s newest airline its first Italian destination and its fifth European gateway. The airline plans to launch the route on December 16, operating four flights per week between Riyadh King Khalid International Airport and Milan Malpensa Airport.
The new service will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. For Riyadh Air, the announcement represents another significant step in building an international network only months after the carrier began commercial operations, while also strengthening its presence in one of Europe’s most important business and leisure markets.
Milan is particularly notable because Italy had not appeared among the 15 potential destinations Riyadh Air identified earlier in the year. The decision therefore illustrates how quickly the airline’s network plans are evolving as additional aircraft become available and the carrier moves toward its longer-term objective of establishing Riyadh as a major global aviation hub.

Riyadh Air Milan Route Adds Italy to the European Network
The Riyadh–Milan route will operate as flight RX519 from Riyadh to Milan Malpensa, departing at 2:45 a.m. and arriving at 7:05 a.m. local time. The return flight, RX520, will leave Milan at 9:55 a.m. and arrive in Riyadh at 5:15 p.m. The schedule provides an overnight journey westbound, followed by a daytime return to Saudi Arabia.
The timing also fits Riyadh Air’s developing connecting network. The carrier’s early-morning arrival in Milan gives passengers the opportunity to continue their journeys through the Italian airport, while the evening arrival into Riyadh can connect with selected services across the airline’s Middle Eastern and Asian network. As the carrier adds more destinations, these carefully timed connections could become increasingly important to its strategy.
Milan will become Riyadh Air’s 15th overall destination when the service enters the schedule. The airline already serves destinations including London Heathrow, Manchester, Madrid, Málaga, Bangkok, Cairo, Dhaka, Dubai, Islamabad, Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, Lahore, Manila and Mumbai.
Boeing 787-9 Brings Three Cabin Classes to Milan
Passengers on the new route will fly aboard Riyadh Air’s 290-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with economy, premium economy and business class cabins. The interiors are designed around Saudi-inspired elements, incorporating themes associated with the Kingdom’s heritage and traditions.
The cabin concept is intended to give Riyadh Air a distinctive identity as a new international carrier rather than simply replicating the established designs of other Gulf airlines. Elements inspired by Bedouin tents and Saudi culture are incorporated into the passenger experience, reinforcing the airline’s broader ambition to present Riyadh as an international gateway.

Milan Expands Riyadh Air’s European Reach
Before Milan, Riyadh Air’s European network included London, Manchester, Málaga and Madrid, covering several major markets across the United Kingdom and Spain. Adding Milan gives the carrier access to Italy for the first time and broadens its European footprint beyond its existing destinations.
The choice is also significant because Milan serves a wide range of international traffic, including business travelers, leisure passengers and visitors heading into northern Italy. For Riyadh Air, the route provides another opportunity to build traffic between Saudi Arabia and Europe while developing Riyadh as a connecting point between the two regions.
Riyadh Air is also building connectivity through partnerships rather than relying exclusively on its own network. The airline has established relationships with carriers including Saudia, Singapore Airlines, Air China, China Eastern, Delta Air Lines, EgyptAir, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM, Air India, Air Europa and ANA. Together, these partnerships span the world’s three major airline alliances and can provide additional destinations beyond Riyadh Air’s own aircraft network.
Riyadh Air Targets More Than 100 Destinations by 2030
The Milan launch forms part of a much larger expansion plan. Riyadh Air intends to serve more than 100 destinations by 2030, supporting Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 strategy to transform Riyadh into a major international aviation and logistics center.
The airline’s rapid expansion will depend heavily on the arrival of additional aircraft and the ability to build sustainable demand across its growing network. Its chief executive, Tony Douglas, has previously discussed plans to add a substantial number of destinations as the fleet expands, with the Indian subcontinent, Europe and Asia among the key areas of focus.
The addition of Milan shows that the network can change quickly as opportunities emerge. Italy was not among the destinations previously highlighted by the airline, yet Milan has now moved directly into the operating schedule. That flexibility could become an important feature of Riyadh Air’s expansion as it works toward a much larger global network.
