Target Reverser

A target reverser is a system used primarily in turbojet and low bypass ratio turbofan engines to provide reverse thrust. This hydraulically operated mechanism employs bucket-type doors that redirect the hot gas stream produced by the engine. When the aircraft is in forward thrust, these bucket doors serve as the final tailpipe nozzle. Once the pilot selects reverse thrust, actuators close the buckets, directing the gas flow forward instead of backward. A mechanical lock secures the buckets in place, allowing for increased thrust without the risk of unintentional retraction. This feature enhances safety during landing and braking, making target reversers an essential component in modern aviation.
