Flame Out

A flameout refers to the unintentional shutdown of a jet engine for reasons other than cutting off the fuel supply. There are several reasons why this can happen. Fuel starvation occurs when the engine runs out of fuel or is not receiving enough fuel to operate. Another cause is a compressor stall, which happens when airflow in the engine is disrupted.

Additionally, engines can flame out due to foreign objects entering the engine. This can include volcanic ash, hail, ice, birds, or even large amounts of liquid water. Mechanical failures can also lead to flameouts, as can lightning strikes, which can damage engine components. Understanding these causes helps in preventing unexpected engine shutdowns during flight.
